Rehabilitation Sciences: A Growth Industry

 

Rehabilitation Sciences is an interdisciplinary field that focuses on human function and disability and serves as an essential segment of modern health care system. It focuses on assessment and evaluation of functional and structural disorders related to musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiovascular & respiratory systems. Basic and applied research in the field of rehabilitation sciences is directed towards enhancing physical and psycho-social functioning, participation in life situations and quality of life of people with disabilities by using non-invasive methods of treatment based on manual therapy, electrotherapy and occupational therapy. Hence, rehabilitation sciences cover basic parameters of healing that includes prevention, promotion, diagnosis, rehabilitation and cure.

Physical Therapy is an essential component of modern health care system. It is a type of treatment one may need when health related problems make it hard to move and perform everyday tasks completely or partially. It helps move better and relieve pain, improve or restore one’s physical function and fitness level and optimize one’s contribution to family, community and the nation. It may help with recovery after surgeries and other injuries as well as management of long term health problems.

Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT)

 

Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) is a five year Degree Program spread over 10 semesters. The initial two years mainly comprise of basic education of medical and physical therapy sciences. The next three years comprise of special courses related to medical, physical therapy and rehabilitation related treatment methods and clinical rotations and practices.

It deals with methods of treatment based on movement, manual therapy, physical agents and therapeutic modalities to relieve the pain and other complications. TIPHS aims to produce competent rehabilitation professionals capable of conducting independent clinical Practice & Research in the noble field of Physical Therapy. The program offers curriculum that integrates theoretical and applied sciences through an evidence-based approach to healthcare management. The main objective of the DPT programmed is to produce highly Skilled Physical Therapy Professionals who will take up the ever burgeoning load of the Disabled Community and who are at par with the best professionals in the world and also to promote the development of students’ scientific knowledge, psychomotor skills, professional values, attitudes and behaviors. TIPHS promotes critical thinking and inquiry to foster an environment of research and academic learning in its students. Its programs have been designed to meet the growing demands of the populace in rehabilitating the patients suffering from injuries and disabilities.
